Reginald Dunlap, a 45-year-old Silver Spring resident, was sentenced to 55 years in prison for murdering his wife, Lauren Charles in 2021, authorities said.
Lauren's body was found inside the couple's home in March 2021, Lauren DeMarco, the director of public affairs for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, said.
Dunlap forced a pillowcase down her throat and beat to her death with a decorative Buddha statue, DeMarco said.
Dunlap then poured bleach on her body and ransacked their bedroom in order to stage a robbery at their home, police said.
Lauren worked as an attorney and was remembered in her obituary for having "keen intellect, a zest for life and an insatiable curiosity."
A graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Lauren later earned degrees from Johns Hopkins University, Pratt Institute and The University of Oregon School of Law.
She had been working as the lead project manager assigned to the Department of Justice for Leidos.
